Why Fun is a Serious Business

It can be argued that most business owners or managers believe that an all work and no play approach is the best way to tackle productivity. However, with more surveys and employee feedback revealing that they thrive both mentally and physically in a fun working environment.

Taking this on board we have spoken to hen and stag specialists, Last Night of Freedom and Cheapest Fancy Dress to discuss how they incorporate fun in their business.

Being stag and hen party planners, us lot at LNOF are no stranger to a bit of fun. In fact, it’s at the very heart of everything we do. Since first opening our doors back in 1999, we’ve actively encouraged the ‘work hard, play hard’ ethic; not only is it key to keeping team morale (and therefore productivity) at an all-time high, but it’s a crucial part of ensuring that our dedicated team know absolutely all of the details about what they’re selling.

The thousands of activities that we offer to stag and hen groups across around 70 locations globally, have all been thoroughly tested by members of staff. Whether it be go karting and paintballing in our hometown of Newcastle, drinking and dancing in Dublin’s Temple Bar or cruising around the Med and enjoying bubbly at a pool party in Marbella – it goes without saying, there’s nothing we haven’t ‘tested’. All in the name of research, of course.

Part of our mission statement, which is at the epicentre of everything we do, involves us possessing ‘industry-leading knowledge and outstanding customer service’. We find that experiencing the sort of trips, nightlife areas and activities which our customers will be experiencing on their stag or hen do, helps us achieve this part of our mantra. Plus, when the average age of all 40 employees is under 25, we don’t have any problem filling spaces on activity days or trips away.

It’s not just the trips and fast-paced activities where we see our team having fun, either. Our plush Quayside offices have a PlayStation, pool, ping pong and darts available, where staff can unwind in their breaks and head back to their desks fresh and ready to go. We’ve had fun at the forefront of our minds for over 18 years now, and the party’s showing no signs of stopping any time soon.

We have plenty of equipment and machines in an office, but we do not act like we are part of the office stationary. As employees, we need a little fun to feel relaxed and ready to get to work. We believe that is all about the company culture that you want to create, and more importantly, that people want to work in.

If you’re a business owner who is struggling to balance a fun working environment with the productivity of staff, surveys are the best way to gauge an understanding of employee morale. Various research studies have found that having fun is a key way of managing and improving employees’ emotions. It’s also proven to improve teamwork, build trusting relationships and increase employee retention.  Having fun never looked so serious!

7 Ways to Grow Your SaaS Startup Faster

Every startup looks for ways to catapult a business to success. Here are some tips for accelerating growth for SaaS (software as a service) companies. 1. Start charging early SaaS startups are often hesitant about charging customers. They think that their product is not yet ready, that it’s necessary to get traction and focus on expanding their customer base rather than on growing revenue. Deep inside, however, they often don’t just have enough faith in their product and are not sure if someone will buy it at all. They prefer keeping hundreds or thousands of free users to attempting to win a few serious customers. Big numbers are comforting but the product remains an unverified idea. Building a product should imply increasing revenue. So don’t hesitate too much—put it to the test by charging and see if it works in the real conditions. This is one way to minimize your risk too. Instead of waiting to launch until you’ve invested huge amounts of time and money, launch early. If...
